General issues
What is BATTLEOUT?
BATTLEOUT is a free online service that allows anybody to battle out with images i.e Show off your best pose, your car, your girlfriend ;), etc..
Simply upload an image, put it into a competition (i.e. a battle) with another user's picture and let the site visitors (hint: make sure your friends stop by) decide which image they like the most.
We felt the need for a universal platform for all kinds of 'battles', where players can fight it out with each other [non-violently ofcourse :)]. so we created BATTLEOUT, Indias's first photo battle site.

How do I vote?
There are 2 ways of voting:
(a) Registered voter: can give 10 VotingPoints
(b) Anonymous voter: can give only 1 VotingPoint
if you are here to help a friend win a battle, you might consider to going in for option (a), because his or her opponent will most likely have a couple of registered voters on stand-by as supporters.
You can only vote once per battle.
As a player, you can not vote for yourself.

ACCOUNT / REGISTRATION / LOGIN
How do I sign up as a member?
To register simply click the REGISTER! link on the login page or one of our Join Now Links. Follow the instructions on the next page and you are almost done. You need an eMail address not already used at BATTLEOUT and you will be asked to enter a 3-digit code that you will receive by mail during registration to complete the signup process.
Being a registered voter or player is quite the same thing. Uploading an image will turn you from a voter into player. In both cases you only receive the newsletter if you want to and can unsubscribe any time. If you are a player and are not subscribed to the newsletter, you will only receive important yet short system messages whenever there might be changes to the system you should know about.
You can UPGRADE yourself from a registered voter to a player by adding an image.

BATTLES
What are the basic features of a battle?
A battle takes place between two players and lasts 5 days from the moment it has been accepted by the invited player.
The person that receives the most VotingPoints will be the winner.
A registered voter can give 10 VotingPoints.
An anonymous voter can give only 1 VotingPoint.
If 2 players have the same score at the end of the game, it is a tie, and 0 BattlePoints will be given.

How do I start/accept/reject a battle?
As a logged in player (i.e. with at least one image uploaded), click on the tab START A BATTLE and follow the 4-step wizzard. You can not run/start more then one battle against the same person at the same time. If you have a pending invitation or a battle started by you with one player, you can not invite that person again. However, the other player can start a battle against you at the same time.
The other player must accept the battle before it will start. He or she will receive an invitation mail and will have 48 hours to reject. Otherwise the battle will be accepted automatically. The first player will be informed as soon as the battle invitation was accepted.
The invited player can reject the invitation. The inviting player can only re-invite the same player after every 4th invitation (to avoid getting on someone's nerves) and the invited player can only reject 3 battles in a row.

Who should I start a battle with?
The more alike two images are, the more interesting the battle will be. Two fancy cars are better then a fancy car and an out of factory car.

How do I win (i.e. how do I tell my friends to vote for me)?
Both players will receive mail informing them the battle will now start, containing a link to their battle (e.g. www.battleout.com/123456). Simply forward this mail to your friends and encourage them to vote for you.
Tip:
People are quite busy these days. You might want to follow up on them.
Consider creating a mailing list in your eMail program containing all the friends you will continuously invite to vote for you.
Get extra coverage: if you have a personal website, a blog or similar, you can link from their to your player page which will have the following URL: www.battleout.com/yournickname. Your friends will find all your running battles featured on that page.

What happens after the battle?
The result is added to your scorecard. BATTLEOUT will automatically start a new battle for you 48 hours after your last battle (e.g. if you have more battles running) has ended. To avoid player matches at your dislike, best actively select your next opponent within those 2 days after your last battle.

How does messaging work?
You can send messages to players and registered voters by either username or clicking on MAIL links wherever you find them next to a player or registered voter image etc.. These (max. 600 characters) messages will be sent to the users message box.

How well is my data protected?
We don't collect sensitive data from registered voters or players. All we need is an eMail address unique to our system to make sure users don't run multiple accounts to cast multiple high VotingPoint votes in their favor. This is why we currently don't use SSL connections to browsers. Frauds simply don't put much effort into finding out a simple mail address or the login data for a site that is absolutely of no monetary value for them.
However, the servers we use are secured against hacking with the highest attention, so nobody can steal large amounts of mail addresses with one shot.

How does BATTLEOUT use my data?
We don't sell your data or give it away for free. We don't use your data to harass you with advertising about other people's products and stuff.
We don't mail anything to registered voters unless they actively choose to receive our newsletter (once or max. twice a month) from which they can unsubscribe at any time. We send important system messages to players (e.g. about a new feature or a service window that will shut down the service). Starting battles, accepting battle invitations, etc. will trigger confirmation mails to the involved players.
if you terminate your account, you will never hear from us again and your data will be permanently erased.
